Instructor Training in Prenatal & Postpartum Exercise

Objectives:

1. Understand the anatomy & physiology of the childbearing year.
2. Evaluate strength and range of motion of key muscle groups.
3. Demonstrate corrective exercises for diastasis recti.
4. Identify the rationale and progression of exercises.
5. Recognize common errors in positions and movement.
6. Emphasize stabilization of abdominals/pelvic floor during functional activities.
7. Avoid contraindicated exercises.
8. Guide coordination of breathing and movements.
9. Facilitate group participation and partner activities.
10. Understand & support common concerns of pregnant & postpartum women.
11. Learn the process of normal labor.
12. Recognize controversies in childbirth preparation.
13. Appreciate the significance of pre/perinatal events on a person's life.
14. Appreciate the awareness of the unborn child.
15. Conduct post-Cesarean & post GYN surgery rehabilitation.
16. Demonstrate massage, range of motion and ball exercises for infants.
17. Identify appropriate OB-GYN PT modalities.
18. Understand the importance of PT for high-risk prenatal patients.
19. Identify key factors in pelvic floor dysfunction, prevention and rehabilitation.
20. Evaluate the importance of relaxation and visualization.
